Sending Flowers
Even though sending flowers to another seems as if it
is a simple thing to do, the fact is that there are certain things that
need to be learned before flowers are sent in some cultures.
For example:
• When sending flowers in Russia, it is important that you count
the number of flowers you are sending. If you are sending flowers for
a birthday or a wedding you should make sure you give an even number
of flowers. On the other hand, if you are sending flowers to a person’s
funeral, the bouquet should include an odd number of flowers.
• In Muslim communities sending flowers after the death of a
loved one is not typically practiced. Families do not expect to receive
flowers when a loved one dies.
• Colors matter, too. In some Asian countries it is better to
not give white flowers. This is true because white flowers are often
used for occasions of mourning or unhappiness. To be safe, do some research
on color symbolism in other countries…
Sending flowers is not something that is typically very difficult if
you are familiar with the culture, but if you are in a different culture
it might be a good idea to double check.
